I began teaching because I was trying to figure out what I wanted to do. I knew I wanted to use my brain, live and/or travel abroad. As I was trying to figure this out, it would come up in conversation that I have a degree in Applied Mathematics. Generally when I tell people that I’m met with, “Wow. I always hated math.” Well, I never hated math and I think it’s a gross cultural phenomena that we’ve let develop because it is accepted for people to hate math. Why is that ok??? Math should be understandable and likable. So, I got a job teaching math. Turns out I really, really like teaching math. I try to convince my students to like math and learning daily. Sometimes, I even succeed.
